Can you get more mileage out of a shoe from treadmill running?

Since they have a lot more give, will you get more mileage running primarily on a treadmill?

Yes more so from not rubbing on the rough ground after every push off.

It’s really going to depend how you wear through shoes. If the cushioning wears out normally for you it won’t change the duration much. If it’s it’s because you wear through the soles you definitely should get more time on them.

Absolutely. Treadmills have a lot of cushioning built-in also. I like to do treadmill workouts on race week to keep the body fresh. For me, five miles on the treadmill is much easier than five road miles. Especially if it’s hot out.

Visible wear will certainly be reduced. I’m not sure that the cushioning will last any longer as you’re still pounding them. But I think shoe cushioning may be less important to injury prevention when running on the treadmill as the treadmill has cushioning. So I tend to use old running shoes that have lost that springy feel on the treadmill, and use newer shoes outside.

Short course athlete here. On a taper week, yes it could hurt my race more than it helps. It’s normally a 10’ warmup with 6x400m @ faster than race pace with 90" rest then cooldown.
