Yeah, that is impressive skill (or maybe just a total lack of fear?).

But being able to park a car upside down?
That is, to me, an unbelievable technical achievement.

Car is held in place, upside down, by generated downforce? How’s the downforce generated (if not by wind/motion)? Or is it now upforce?

I was curious about planes flying upside down. Google says it’s a mod to pressurize the fuel and engine oil and you can fly upside down.

My understanding is that the McMurtry will be (when it is released) the only street legal car that is significantly faster than an F1 race car (on difficult technical courses). There are other cars out there that can out-accelerate F1 cars in a straight line, but they can’t corner like F1 cars. But the McMurtry can, they can beat F1 cars.

Don’t belive it’s intended to be street legal, but instead is a track-day special. Top Gear recently had a vid with latest version driven around the Top Gear track. It was 4 seconds faster than a 2010s F1 which is a huge margin.

I hadn’t heard anything since that initial announcement but seem to remember hearing they’d dropped the road legal version. Could very well be wrong! Regardless, pretty certain it would never be road legal in North America.

Well, it is far far far far far out of my price range anyway.

Really depends on how long you want to fly upside down.

Well of course, as the performance of F1 cars is considerably constrained due to safety and sporting regulations (the latter including fuel flow rates, ban on fans, ban on active aero (beyond DRS), specification of engine displacement, mandatory minimum weight, etc.).

Newey’s concepts over the years have been designed outside the sporting regs and are illustrative of what a vehicle is capable of, and the result is staggering

Now setting a fastest lap time, I can understand.

Blowing a huge fan to generate sufficient force to stick a car upside down, I still don’t quite get. I mean, with sufficient windpower anything can be made to stick upside down. No?

The purpose of the fan is to generate massive downforce so that the car can stick to the road with unreal capability during acceleration and during cornering at insane speeds. But this car can generate this incredible downforce at any speed, which other race cars with aero ‘wings’ cannot do (other race cars must be going fast to get the airflow to generate aero downforce, which means that during acceleration and very tight corners they slip a lot).

The car was never designed to drive upside down, that was a just a stunt to visually demonstrate to lay people its amazing capability.
