OK, so after IMLP I went into a bit of a non disciplined doughboy mode, and packed on a few pounds before Timberman…no worries on the swim and even the bike, but I felt the extra weight on the run. Timberman started off a stretch of 3 half IM’s and 1 half marathon in a period of 29 days. This is the stretch that I really trained myself for this year…the “A event period”.
So after Timberman, I reduced my fruit juice consumption and eliminated chocolate (other than that everything was the same). I did not totally eliminate fruit juice and replace with green tea like I sometimes have to do in the sprint, but I was pretty good about not taking in useless sugar and by the last 10 days, I could feel that running was going better…maybe placebo effect, but whatever it takes. When it comes to running you can’t use any aero doodads to get faster…just less weight and more fitness.
So today the season was supposed to be done, but I have to train for another half IM on Nov 14th. Just finished lunch and trying to decide if I get to have a chocolate bar or ice cream, which normally are off limits when I am racing. I figure a month of doughboy eating again before getting into the final stretch for CW. Is this ML and Triyoda approved. Does this conform to the Desertdude eating rules?
Seriously though, every pound makes a diff. Don’t believe, it, go and run with 5 waterbottles around your waist!!!
Well, I did not realize what a loser chocolate selection they have in the cafeteria since I have never used it for that. Rather than break the chocolate fast on crap, I will wait another day and get some proper Lindt Extra Dark Chocolate for tomorrow post lunch!!!
To answer one of the previous questions, LP 138/139, Timberman 142, Now 138.
Tim, its not the guilt thing and not even the amout of calories in chocolate its, more a question about how the sugar affects insulin levels and ensuing need for more empty calories. The high glycemic stuff is like a negative spiral when you are sitting around doing nothing but recovering.
Dev, while I can appreciate some good dark chocolate as much as the next person, my “rewards” tend to be of the Dairy Queen variety. Had a large Tin Roof Blizzard after the 1/2 @ the Canadian nothing like 1300cals in a cup! If you are going to go, go BIG http://i35.tinypic.com/116m3b5.jpg

How do you even feel that? My weight fluctuates between 144 and 148 weekly, I never notice a difference, just depends what I ate that day or what workout I did the day before and whatnot. I weigh myself every day after my workout. Either way I can barely ever tell which weight I am at…
during my last HIM there was a local, homemade ice cream parlor on the bike course. Sign on the front said something about old fashioned milkshakes. I made 3 mistakes in that race.
too much fuel on the bike,
not enough fuel on the run and ran out of gas at mile 9.5 of the run. I then got passed by the same guy who passed me last year, both times in sight of the finish line! Good news was I did go faster this year than last year.
Biggest mistake
3. I did not go to that ice cream stand on the way home. I have been craving a REAL milkshake ever since!

Pssh…weak!
After the Cali 70.3, my friends took me to BJ’s. Ate a whole pizookie on my own. There’s 887 calories in the little ones. I ate the party-platter-sized one. After having dinner.

I think it’s fair game if you can fit said chocolate bar or scoop of ice cream on a coffee saucer.
And, congratulations: you are more OCD about eating than I am. That is probably not a good thing.
