Can anyone tell me why my Garmin HRM is not working?

I have put in a new battery in the strap,and reset the unit, but HR is still not being read. Anyone have ANY insight/clue as to why it’s not being read?

Perhaps they need to be paired again? Maybe the chest strap is just FUBAR? Call Garmin.

Did you put the battery in with the correct side up?

Call Garmin. Sometimes those things just croak. Mine died after only 4 months or so. Multiple battery changes, etc. They replaced it with minimal hassle.

put battery in upside down reversing polarity then install correctly. resets the HR strap apparently. found that on Garmin forums after my soft HR strap from 310xt drove me nuts last week.

I’m on my second 310 because the software crashed. both times the hr quit working or it was great distorted .

best bet is to call, they’re very helpful and guide you through

You might have tried this already, but be sure the strap is on your body. I’ve found that it won’t pick up until you do that.

  • Put in new battery
  • Moisten the part against your skin
  • Buckle it on
  • Have the Garmin search for the HRM (manually start the process)

So, I opened it up to change the battery, and noticed that it was all rusted and corroded inside. Something must have happened. So, i cleaned it out as best as I could with rubbing alcohol. I don’t have a battery to replace it with.

There is some rust on one of the sensors, I just can’t get it off. Does this mean that the strap is shot and I need to get another one? Never had one with corroded sensors before.

Gets even better. I don’t think any place in Tampa sells just the HRM strap. So, I’m basically effed for my workout tomorrow.

OH THE HORROR! A workout without a heart rate monitor! I’m so sorry!

You can probably clean out the gunk, get a new battery at the drug store, and everything will work right.

Having similar issue with my 305. Seems the readings are all over the place even with a new battery. At one point my HR was at 41.

Had simliar stuff with my 305, try wetting the strap before you put it on. Fixed my problems. HR of 41? Sure you just aren’t in awesome shape;)
