Can a 32H Hub be safely laced on 20H rim?

Does anyone know with certainty if a 32H Hub can be safely laced on 20H rim?

I can only come up with one possibility here.

32 rear hubs could be laced crow’s foot on the drive side using the 16 holes drilled in the hub and lacing a spoke in every 4th hole to evenly space 8 spokes all outbound (head’s in) and 1x. Then add 1 spoke between each of the two holes remaining in an “iso pulse” style; not radial; all inbound. This would put 12 spokes on the drive side.

On the non-drive side you’d lace every other hole inbound utilizing 8 holes/spokes.

The total would be 20 spoke holes needed on the rim but they couldn’t be profiled/angled and would likely need to be custom drilled. I’d use 1.8 on the crossed drive and 2.0 on the non-drive and non-crossed drive side.

Typically 32H can be combined on the rear with: 32, 24, & 16H rims if the spoke nipple angle matches up.

You are spot on correct - then, we run into the question - “Why?”
