You donât HAVE to change the rear deraileur, but you can. You probably have the medium cage Iâd guess. You donât need to change the shift lever either. Not sure on the front deraileur, probably you can adjust the stops down to where it will work okay, but I think the double would shift better.
You may like the compact cranks 50-34 , they drop your top speed gearing and lower your low - from a stock double . Donât worry about a new front derailleur the stock unit works fine .
In a perfect world the gap in between the crank rings should sight directly to the center of the cassette , a bit off is not a big deal.
As for the rear derailleur just check the chain length /slack shifted in ( Big front ring & big rear ) and ( small & small rings ) even a short cage may work . Heli
There is no need to change your shifters⌠Campy has a large range of micro-adjust clicks which mean you can use the left shifter with a double or triple. One of the many advantages of Campy over Shimano.
You should, however, change you derrailluers. Shifting performance will be MUCH better with a double front and short cage rear as opposed to keeping the triple derâs on.
True, a compact set up would work, and provide a similar range as your triple, but what is the point? You were thinking about a double because you donât need that range, right? Besides, with a compact, the gaps between gears become larger and less âsmoothâ. You can always put a 12-27 cassette on if you think you are going to be climbing a lot.
Thanks everybody that answered the question, I thought as much but its nice to have it confirmed.
Like Artmus said, there isnât much need for me to go to a compact crank setup as the main reason for getting rid of the triple was I donât need that many easy gears. I will probably swap up the ders and throw on a double front rings, bb and cranks.
