my wife has 8-speed campy record on her softride. admittedly, i know little about campy stuff. do these chains take replacement pins like shimano chains? i remember reading that you need a special tool to press in the campy pins, but not sure if that’s for 8 speed too or just 9-10 speed. can anyone help me out on this?
My advice is to switch to one of the 8 speed SRAM chains. I bought my 8 speed campy DeRosa used, but I have never had a campy chain on it. The SRAM is so easy to use and take on and off by hand. I don’t race this bike, and it is an older heavier steel frame, so I use the PC-58 chain.
Campagnolo does not produce a Campagnolo chain for their 8 speed drivetrains. There is no longer a need for a $100 tool for any of their chains, and if you are removing a chain, all you need is a $5 Rivoli chain breaker or a good set of bolt cutters.
I second the SRAM recommendation and also would give the nod to Wipperman’s 8 speed version.

thanks guys! i stopped by the bike shop yesterday afternoon and ordered a sram pc-68 for her.
I use a shimano chain ( its runs the smoothest ) on my 8 speed campy athena group bike , the SRAM chains are good as well, But I did have a SRAM chain break due to “overly hard / brittle links” every link had a hair line crack after 30 miles. This was years ago ,I’m sure you wont have that trouble. It seems all the SRAM chain can be worked on with any chain breaker tool .
On the campy 10 speed chain ,its tagged to leave the side with two outside links and shorten back the other way. They give you an guide pin to hold the ends together while you push in, the link pin with a normal chain tool.
