Camp Pendleton Sprint Tri ROLL CALL.. (1)

Any other ST’ers racing tomorrow morning? Just got out of the surf and the water is still chilly- about 67 degrees, but we have brisk SW wind today, which should warm it a few degrees.

I’m in and looking forward to it. The CP races are always so organized and fun. I was bummed they ditched the international distance race this year.

Yeah, same here. The best thing about their races are that they’re cheap (don’t have to hire police!), and Camp P is 20 minutes from my house!

I was supposed to be running my first 50 miler up in Marin so I’m missing the sprint for the first time in 3 years. Now, I’m not running either. Bummer.

I’ll be there. Driving up from San Diego. I had planned to swim without a suit, but if its still in the 60’s up there… Nope. Looking forward to the ride in Pendleton though, Ive never rode on base… Looks like fun from the air (Helicopter Crewman). See you all there.

Dont forget your race packages, recieved mine in the mail last week.

Plus you don’t have to check in the day before. They have it set up like all races should be!

One of the best finish lines you will ever see…

I am in….going to ride in from the Harbor.

I talked to the race director and he said they are working on brining back the Olympic distance race. It had to due with on base housing logistics he said.

Cool. Good to hear! Now, if only they would bring back a full IM!

Hell ya. I was so pumped up to run onto a hover craft last year. So ridiculous-- the race sold out before I was able to sign up. :frowning: I really enjoyed this race. It was my 2nd tri ever and I was looking forward to using it as a way to track my progress from last year. I just looked and my average bike speed was 16.9mph (I rented a road bike the day before the race and didn’t own my own). Now I own a Cervelo P2 and have 6000 more miles on my legs and was able to throw down a 22.9mph bike split the other day. I guess training down pay off…

Number three for me. I had to take the California Basic Education Test last year–what a waste of time that was–and missed out on my favorite race distance ever. How can you beat 500m/30K/5K that had a hilly ride and a flat run? I’ve never really liked the run-around behind the shopping center, but I’m sure it prevents traffic snarls. Otherwise, hills and wind on the bike.

I just wish it was closer. I hate waking up at 3 am to drive down.

Chad

I don’t think we will see the full IM…but u never know Jay…I’d do it!

You guys have fun. This is the first one I’ve missed.

Great race.

PS: Water temp up here yesterday was 60.

oooh I wish I could do this again this year! Last year my wife and I did it and it was the day after our wedding! Now we live in Chicago :frowning:

Have fun out there!

I’ve heard rumors that Oceanside is on the radar for the 70.3 World Championships, which may be moving from Clearwater.

Now that could be cool. I wonder about having the TV crews traipsing through Camp Pendleton though. Might be a “national security” problem on that one…
