Camp Far West Oly Tri/mountain bike

I just got back from a new race that I thought I would let folks know about. It is at camp far west, out of Sacramento, and the home web site is http://www.teaminfaith.org/index.asp.

There were only 18 folks in the Oly Tri, and 5 in the mountain bike race. I have never been at such a small race. It was great! The bike was on gently rolling hills basically without ANY cars!! I could count on my hands how many cars I saw in 24 miles!! Some places on the road where I little rough, so will probably use my training wheels next time. The run was all trails and real hard ups and downs.

They had great bike racks. Chip system for start to finish.

So, if one is looking for what is a small race, but a great course, I would suggest this race!!

Right on. I saw those on the schedule. Did some training out that way last year for CDA. What is the water like?

The water was 84 degrees. The RD let folks wear wet suits if they wanted which I did. Was starting to get a little warm though. They had the normal large buoys. For the entire race, they had all brand new equipment for everything. Was very impression for such a small race!!!

And, the food after the race was great!! And, on top of this, families could eat anything they wanted for free!!! The best family focused race in the entire state.

If I look at this race in terms of how I judge events, again, it is surprising so few folks have found out about it. Good, clean, well marked swim. Super bike without cars basically!!! And, a 100% dirt, very tough run! The heat and sun were tough even though some shade.

Other positives. They had two aid stations on the BIKE!!! I lost my water just after the start so this saved my butt. Two aid stations on the run. Now, the things to improve would be the markings on the bike, and the start of the run. I think the bike was about 1/2 mile short based on my computer. I give this slack since such a small race so far.

They had no awards, and no tee shirts.

So, I hope this does not wipe me out for the vineman half in a week. I just got up from a 3 hour nap, which I never do. Guess the heat took its toll.

I believe the winner today was Dewey Lucero. He kicked butt. He finished in 2:05, I finished in 2:31

I plan to add this to my race schedule since it is tough run, and seems to be a pretty safe bike. A few pot holes and cattle grates you have to look out for. Parts of the bike course has rough roads.

The mountain bike race went off an hour latter than the 7 am no wave swim start. It looked like a very good course.
