Hi,
I have some mean caluses/blisters on the tips of my toes- The get hard and sore- I have been clipping them off with nail clippers because they get hard and built up, which makes them more sore…but cutting them creates open skin, more like a blister…what should I do??? Thanks
Feet don’t gross me out, you?
My wife gets that exact thing during marathon training (pretty much year round) - a couple of years ago she received what can best be described as a disc sander for your feet. It has several attachments and is very effective at sanding the calluses away and helps avoid having to cut them off.
I used to cut them off with an x-acto knife. Once I saw a podiatrist, who was horrified (I didn’t tell him that I leaned that trick from my dad, who uses a Swiss Army knife). He used a sterilized scalpel and finished the job off with a dremel tool. I think he charged my ins co like $80.
Now I use a corn plane, which is much better than an open blade because it’s really difficult to cut yourself with it (though you can still go too deep, and make it hurt). I find it works best just after a shower, when it’s soft - it’s much easier to “skim the surface” that way.
You can get one at any drugstore.

I’ve never had any problems that a pair of nail clippers and some filing can’t remove, but I know a couple of people have tried this and swear it actually work.
