Calorie Burning (Newbie Education Series)

How many calories are burned during running and biking (on average)? Does one burn more than the other? If so, how much do you have to do for each to equal out? I have also read that in order to get to burning just fat stores, you have to exercise for 45 mins before fat starts to burn. What’s the thoughts on that?

It depends on your height, weight, sex and age mostly but I would assume some other things factor in. I’m 5’10" 165 and I “think” I burn around 100 kcals per mile running and about 800 to 900 per hour of cycling depending on what workout I’m doing. Weather conditions are going to play a bit of a factor in that as well.

If you do a search here or a search on google for the trigeek spreadsheet it has a tool to calculate what you’re burning per day and will give you an estimate of your BMR.
