Calling HED Aerobar Owners: What Stem Do You Use?

I was wondering what stem people were using for their HED bars…

Any standard road stem (26.0) that gives you the reach and rise to achieve your desired position. I used a -17 degree stem with my Syntace setup, but found that the lower pad position of the Hed bars made this unnecessary with my current setup. Will be switching back to a -6 degree stem so I don’t need as many spacers under the stem.

whatever fits, I have a Syntace F99 4-bolt face.

I’m using a Look carbon 90mm stem…mostly because it matches the bars and the rest of my carbon bike…the Syntace F99 is lighter and is calling my name, though…

Has any used the adjustable Look stem?

heavy and don’t see any reason to use it unless you really want to see how low you can go. If you use a look ergo stem you need post pictures.

When building my Issac Joule over the Spring, I thought I would need a 135 mm F99 Syntace stem but since their extensions are sooo long I switched to a 120 mm Ritchey Pro stem that I had laying around my house.

You can get most of that adjustability with the Ritchey adjustable stem…at about 200 grams less…the Look adjustable stem is a whopping 406 grams…or just under a pound…not a showstopper if you need it…but unless your name is Bjorn or Eric (Wohlberg)…not many folks DO need it these days…

My personal favorite for all my aero set-ups (including the Hed bars) has been the Giant adjustable stem that comes on all their road bikes. It offers a greater range than the Ritchey & 3T stems, and it costs less (much less than an ergo stem). They’re black, fairly sleek, and match the bars well, and they’re pretty light for an adjustable stem. I also like that they use 6mm allen bolts, so I don’t have to worry about stripping the head. I can usually find them for $35-40 at any LBS that carries Giant bikes.

Deda stem works great.

Ritchey WCS.

The adjustable stem is a nice idea if you’re not sure where you should be. The length should be pretty easy to peg, and the WCS has a 15º rise, which can be flipped over if you need to get lower.
