OK, I just purchased 4 Tufo Tubular-Clinchers and wondered if any of you pre-sealed your tires with the sealant to guard against punctures? If so, how & where do you apply the sealant? I understand that it’s not a good idea to pre-seal your spare because this will make the tire stiff and harder to store.
Do the sealant where? It’s not possible to apply it under the tread because of the connecting/integrated tube???
The tires should have included a hard-plastic, U-Shaped tool that allows you to remove the valve stem. The theory is that after removing the valve stem, you thread on the tube of sealant and squeeze a generous amount into the tube and upon completion, reinsert/tighten the valve stem core and reinflate the tire, then spin the tire in order to distribute the sealant. I am a big fan of Tufo tubular-clinchers but reserve them for race only activity after my experience with a sidewall puncture that the sealant could not handle. I will add that because of the design, I was able to ride the tire with little to no air pressure for a distance of 11-miles to a friends bike shop where upon the Tufo’s on that set of training wheels got replaced with conventional clinchers.
Actually you only remove the valve core.If you don’t have the tool you can use a spoke wrench.I think it is the green one. When repairing the tire I’ve found that you should not put too much P.S.I. at first.Try 60 -80.You should not give up if it doesn’t work at first. You may need more sealant.

Be careful, the sealant can be very messy and can clog the valve of the tire if you try to let air out of the tire with the sealant in it. It is a real pain to clean the valves after they have been gunked up. I only use the sealant when I am ready to mount the tire and then I am very careful any time I open the valve to let more air in.
By the way I love the tires, but only use them for racing as well.
