I’m changing out chainrings for an upcoming race. Does anyone know if there is a calibration/settings change I need to make in the computer (I actually use the Garmin 705 and not the PC). Thank you.
While moving the crank from bike to bike typically does not result in any negligible change in the slope of an SRM Powermeter, I am pretty certain that changing the chainrings does result in a quantifiable difference in the slope, especially if changing from road to tt style chainrings such as the FSA K-Force TT chainrings. If you have a wireless SRM and have the latest firmware update for your Garmin Edge 705, then you are fortunate in that you can not only calculate the new slope, the Edge will transmit/update the new slope in the wireless SRM’s firmware.
Calibrating your SRM is not difficult and there used to be a section on how it is done in the SRM Training System user manual but I think once the wireless systems hit the market, SRM removed it from the manual. Also, the first time you calibrate your SRM, the weighing process can be a handful for one person but I think everything you need to know including instructions on how it is done, images, and an Excel Spreadsheet with the required formula’s can be found in this thread started by Steven Goldman.
