Calfee Dragonfly " Tri ", Very rare, very beautiful 58 cm

Our lightest and most technically advanced frame. Although it weighs only 2.1 pounds* in a 54cm size, they are plenty stiff and carry a 25 year warranty.

The Dragonfly was designed to be the lightest possible frame without sacrificing stiffness and ride quality. We use high modulus carbon fiber in all the tubes (55 msi) as well as the lug areas (42 msi). Previously, a frame built with all high modulus fiber would be too brittle. We incorporated Boron fiber into the three main tubes to add some toughness and compressive stiffness. Combined with the super high tensile stiffness of the carbon, the result is a frame material with the highest stiffness-to-weight ratio on the market.

The lugs are pressure molded from high modulus fabric. They are then meticulously carved to the optimum shape, taking into consideration the weight and intended use by the rider. They happen to look good because of their form-follows-function aesthetic.

The dropouts are also carved out to their optimal shape, saving 15 grams off the standard dropouts. This may not seem like much, but the way to make a 12 pound bike is to address every component and look for opportunities for weight savings, no matter how small. The trick is to do it without sacrificing strength and durability. As in nature, the Dragonfly is one of the most optimized and evolved structures to be found.

Calfee is a leader in establishing ideal frame geometry for Triathletes. in 1994, we pioneered the longer top tube/shorter stem combination on steeper seat tube angle frames that are now commonly found on most Tri bikes. Calfee’s experience in making stable, comfortable frames continues with the trend towards 700c wheels on larger frames. We have found that the shorter chainstays of the 650 wheel design improve stability by helping to keep weight off the front wheel, especially on smaller sizes. 1" steerer forks keep the ride very comfortable for hours in the aero bars.

Things to know about this frame:

Comes with Alpha Q Aero Fork .
Chris King headset.
never been crashed
and in pristine condition

I trained and raced on this frame for two season, this includes one Iron-man , 4 Half Iron-mans , and all the associated training that goes along with that type of racing.
Warranty is transferable just requires the new owner to ship bike to Calfee headquarters and pay approximately 240 dollars.
