Anyone have a way to calculate a rough rTSS for a session of 6x800s? I turned off the GPS on the garmin because it gets all weird on the track.
If you can find out your AVG pace for the ON’s and find the % of LT pace it is, then square that number, finally multiply it by the number of hours you were riding! Same thing if you need it for bike TSS too someday.
So say, pace was 4min/k and your LT was 4min/k = 100% of LT. So take 1 ^ 1 * .5 (say it was 30min) and you’d get 50TSS!
I’d say that might be easiest? You can do hrTSS too, using the similar formula.

IIRC for RTSS they basically do what you’ve outlied but then bump the result up by 10%.

6x800 @ ~10 seconds under 5k pace came up with 38rTSS – seem reasonable? My threshold pace is 6:40/mile and I was coming in at 2:53 for each 800. 17.3 minutes of intervals.
Seems about right as only 6 x 800 isn’t very “long” in duration or length. As Scguy said above, maybe even add 10% to that? Cheers

Not that I would ever do anything like that or have a spreadsheet template that makes it a 5 minute job to create a wko compatible file.

This is basically it although not identical to the method TP uses. Considering you were on a track it’s safe to assume that the difference between average pace and NGP is irrelevant. Just remember you need to use the total time and total distance not just the 6x800 efforts.
If you paced every one pretty consistently, I’m getting an IF about 1.12 and rTSS of 38.8 over those 6 intervals. Add in the jog recovery (if you had one) for an overall TSS for the run.

Seems like a very good estimate based on the intervals, recovery and warmup/cool down which totals a bit over 1 hour of running.
I’m calculating that out to a rTSS of ~80. 30 combined for your warm-up and cool-downs, 38.8 for the intervals, and 11 for the recovery jogs between them. Since run TSS is a different value than cycling TSS, though have a similar calculation, I don’t add the extra 10% in. TSS is based on a maximal 1-hr ride, rTSS is based on a 1-hr maximal run, so it’s already accounting for the additional weight bearing nature or running.
If you’re looking at a comparison between running and cycling TSS, then I can see a factor of 10% added for the run since running requires more energy expenditure and will have a greater overall affect on fatigue for the same duration. So if you’re planning a specific weekly TSS for combined training, then adding 10% on top makes sense.

In GoldenCheetah v3.2 the manual workouts for running or swimming allow the entry of time and distance for work and rest intervals to generate samples assuming even pace on each one, these workouts have GOVSS/SwimScore automatically computed and they can be uploaded to TP to have rTSS/sTSS.

Did this workout back in March, so went back and looked at it for you. I actually did it on the road on a slight downhill, rather than the track.
W/U: 6 laps
M/S: 6 x 800 at open 10km effort/pace with 2 laps easy jog as rest

I went to a seminar run by Hunter Allen last year and he said that rTSS gives a score of 100 for a 45 min threshold effort (his explanation was that to account for the additional stress on the body from running 45 mins of threshold effort was equivalent to 60mins on the bike), so I’m not sure whether he was incorrect, or that link is perhaps out of date?

I will definitely be using this when I get home. I paid for TP this year, but I might just make the switch to GC soon… I tried a few months ago, but it just wasn’t as seamless as TP yet.
