Caffeine gum in IM

assuming I would not choke on it, anyone think this might work on the run in an IM ?

only tried red bull once when i needed a boost but it destroyed my guts

What do you take for nutrition during the run of an IM? Many nutrition products have caffeine versions (GU Roctane, Infinit Napalm, Sport Beans, Salt Stick, etc.)

i try and drink most of it if its hot or water/sports drinks and gu chomps (with caffeine) if not so hot
i was thinking when the stomach is not so good as does happen from time to time

25-50 mg in those products. Phooey. If you are a coffee drinker, you’ll be sick from the calories/sweetness before you get a decent dose of caffeine from gels. Yeah, I use the 1x and 2x caffeine gels during races, too. But I also use a 100 mg tablet in transitions. I do like the idea of the caffeine gum. Might try it in training.

GU Roctaine has 35mg and Infinit Napalm has 75mg… personally I stop drinking coffee a couple weeks before the race so when I go back to using caffeine on race day it has a greater effect.

This might be a better option. tried it at Eagleman and it seemed to work ok. Going to use it again at Michigan Titanium in a few weeks.

The packet design is quite cool as it splits across the middle so less little pieces to deal with.

For this no coffee drinking 65yo, I’ll get my 100mg caffeine rush from a Chocolate-Cherry Cliff Shot downed in 5 seconds with no worries about choking or biting my tongue from all that chewing.

Been a while but I used jolt gum both in training and race at 06 Wisconsin. Started at mile 56 on bike and then another the last 5 miles of bike.

No issues.
