I mean…if 18.39 isn’t fast enough it was in prelims of SEC’s

I can do that for a 25…
Seriously, that’s smokin’. I’m interested to see how his speed plays out in the big pool this summer.
WOW!
Look how far ahead he was (even for a prelim)
his stroke is a spitting image of Fred Bousquet’s which transferred pretty well. He did have a monster turn, also helps he was out in front the whole way. Will be interesting to see what he does tonight
18.23 in the final!

Insane!
Dare I say it…someone has to…could we see a 17.xx relay split?
I remember the fist time I saw a sub 20s 50. It was still a really big deal, back in maybe '98 or '99. I can’t remember the guys name for the life of me atm but he went 19.97 at Keating Nat. in Cincinnati. The timing system was on a :20 reset and they had the whole meet loaded in. When he went 19:98 (or so) he broke the timing system. They could not get the timing system to reset without risking losing all the meet data that was already loaded in. The meet was still running fine in the computer, but the clock flashed 19:98 the entire weekend…
Dunno what florida’s relay looks like, but if I was coach Troy I’d probably lead off with Caleb. They aren’t known as a sprint program. So unlikely that we see 17.9 at this meet. However, apparently he’s not fully rested for SECs…

You know sub-18 relay split has already been done, right??? Morozov went 17.86 at the 2013 NCAAs.
yes I am aware… however that was at NCAA’s full shave and taper. We are talking about SEC’s likely half taper? and he went faster than Morozov’s NCAA winning time in the morning…18’s only been broken once and this would break it again at essentially a warm up meet…
We could also be looking at a sub 18 straight up 50 at NCAA’s

Ya, good points, i hadn’t thought of the fully tapered angle.

Ya, that would be super cool. So, will a sub-17 happen in our lifetimes, say in next 50 yrs???
Well…seeing how Caeleb is only 19 I could see him doing it in the next few years if he does not do it at NCAA’s this year. His stroke is UGLY but I bet it’s efficient af under water. At 19 and as a sophomore he has been in a college program less than 2 calendar years and could still potentially be growing/developing a bit. as a side note. Bolles is as close as high school programs come to being college programs He is getting faster by leaps and bounds in his first couple season at Florida, 18.57 to win NCAAs last year after going 18.89 at SECs the same year. I am sure the coaching staff down there has a bit more knowledge on how to taper his this time around as well.
Unfortunately, if he does not do it this year he probably won’t do it until after Rio. Next year NCAA’s are SCM (I think right?) and if he doesn’t do it his senior season it may not get done assuming he focuses on the international race and the 50m free vs 50yd.
also to note, if he holds the same taper margin from SECs to NCAA’s as he did last year he will go 17.91 at NCAAs this year…
No this year NCAA’s are SCM.
unreal.
ahh right I actually forgot that the Olympics were this calendar year, man time flies. Take what I said earlier and just rearrange the years based on this year being SCM and the next 2 SCY.
No this year NCAA’s are SCM.
Are you sure about this? I know they are allowing conversion of LCM times for qualifying, but had not heard that the meet would be in SCM.
