Cabo San Lucas- Ocean Swimming

Hello!

I’m in Cabo and I’m curious, ocean swimming… safe? Concerns? I appreciate any feedback— water seems beautiful, but better to ask the group.

Thanks!!
Jason

I did the 70.3 down there a few years ago. The swim was located at Playa Palmilla. I felt safe swimming there the day before and during the race.

According to this there has only been one shark attack in Cabo since1900 which was nonfatal back in 2008. As always swim with a buddy and don’t swim at dusk or dawn. I’m sure the locals can provide you with good spots.

So according to that website, it is safe because the only shark attack in Cabo was a 2 foot shark that gave three punctures to a toe of ryan seacrest. Hahahaha

Use common sense. There are beaches labeled swimming beaches and then there are some unswimmable ones. The dangerous ones have a big shore break with a strong undertow. The pacific side in front of Solmar/finisterra is where you should never swim. Chileano bay is where the snorkel cruise boats go. You can drive there if you have a car it’s pretty calm inside but the outer reef can still get wavy. I usually go there early morning before all the tourist show. The beaches of San Jose del Cabo some areas they say are not swimmable but I swim there and play in the waves. If you aren’t an experienced swimmer stick to the swim beach. Medano beach has swim areas roped off with buoys

Chileno Beach is perfect for swimming!
