CAAD9 Thoughts

Looking at used 2010 CAAD9 Dura Ace, RS80 wheels. Guy is asking $1400.

Just want to get thoughts on this bike.

Ride quality, etc.

Will be used for long training rides mostly. Don’t plan to race it but you never know.

I’m 40 years old if that helps.

Yes, I know, if it doesn’t fit…

great deal for a great bike…

2009 CAAD 9.6 here. Love it. It just feels “right”. And with DA instead of crappy 9 speed Tiagra it must be awesome.

I have a CAAD9 Rival and absolutely love it. This was my first road bike so I have no other road bikes to compare it to though. Do i feel great when I ride it…yes

My furthest ride on it is ~60 miles and the ride felt great and comfortable. I climb a lot on it and it feels responsive and efficient. How does it compare to a carbon frame? No idea. From all of the research I did it seems to be one of more highly regarded aluminum frames out there.

I paid $1,000 for my bike without a wheelset so $1400 for that frame with full DA and a decent wheelset seems to be like a good deal.

Also for kicks over the winter i threw the red on my tri bike onto the CAAD9 and it came out to about 16.5 lbs with a Ksyrium SL wheelset. Not too shabby for an aluminum frame. With rival it is probably around 17.5 lbs. I am no weight weenie but I was impressed.

I’m on my 7th season on my CAAD8, every year I think this will be the year I get the sweet carbon frame, and every year I realize I am really really happy with my CAAD8 and whatever very small advantage a carbon frame may have will not yield me the value I would look for in a $2-3k frame.

So this year I bought my first dual suspension MTB and haven’t been on my road bike in weeks.

To sum up the deal for you:
Best of class pro tour proven alu frame
Dura Ace
For a steal

Ride it like you stole it.

I have a 2009 with Ultegra and love it. Very stiff ride and corners like its on rails. Additionally, I have not had a single problem with it.

If everything is in good shape, it is full dura-ace and it fits that is a very fair price. The wheels and grouppo alone would go for 1400 easy.

Awesome bike - I’ve ridden it up to 170 miles in one day and had no issues with comfort. I’ve got a '10 with chorus 10-speed on it (I just bought frameset).

I have a 2010 CAAD9 wth 105…great bike. Bought it used for $900 (only had a hundred miles on it). Sounds like you’re getting a good deal.

It rides very well and is stiff.

Tough call. If it is stock, it probably has an FSA Crank and ultegra brakes, even though they call it a dura ace model. Performance wise it isn’t a bad thing, but when talking price it does bring down the value IMO.

Personally, I would consider a new CAAD10 Rival over a used CAAD9, even though it might cost a little extra (MSRP $1799). The CAAD10 rival comes with force cranks, which I would prefer over the FSA cranks. I’ve had great experiences with SRAM customer service over the past few years.

I currently ride a caad10 with a mix of force and rival. It replaced a Storck Absolutist. The CAAD10 handles better than the storck in my opinion, and the ride isn’t much more harsh. I’ve heard that the caad10 is the stiffest frame cannondale has ever made, but from experience I can tell you it rides quite smooth.

If you have a good LBS that deals cannondale near by, they will probably give you a free bike fitting and possibly a few free tuneups. Plus, new bike = new chain and cassette. With the used CAAD9, you may be replacing at least the chain pretty soon and possibly more if the bike wasn’t cared for.

Might want to talk him down a bit.

Still, a great value.

High-end aluminum such as this in a carbon obsessed world get’s overlooked, but as others have pointed out this is a great frame and bike that if it fits you could be great for you.

The only thing I would say at this point, is that many triathletes look at a road bike purchase as their second bike, that they may ride only occasionally - thus they tend to go cheap. However, what they find is that they have an “a-ha” moment riding the road bike and, then that becomes the preferred bike for them to ride! They then regret going that cheap.

Again, take the above paragraph with a grain of salt, the bike mentioned is a still a great bike and great value.

I would also go with the caad10 over a caad 9 based on ride reports of people I trust. That said, I have an older caad9 that is just the best all around bike I have ever owned. It is just a solid platform for racing.

I would agree with another poster to go for the new CAAD10 with rival… same pricing range. Its lighter and will have the newest tech with Aluminum frames

I ride a 10 w/ Ultegra… Best road bike I’ve ridden for racing.

Or discussing pricing.

I have the same bike. Have you thought about upgrading the components?

Great buy for that price. Sick, sick race bike. Can’t be beaten as a crit machine IMO.

I’ve thought about it, but not more than that. I want to buy a powermeter over the winter, probably a PowerTap, and I may upgrade the CAAD then so I can use the PT wheel on both it and my Slice.

I have a 2010 Caad 9D rival and I love it. Very pleased with it. I tried several carbon bikes out when I bought it and I just couldn’t feel enough difference in ride quality to justify the price difference. I haven’t ridden it for further than 85 miles but it was very comfy. Mine has the BB30 with force cranks. If you have a good deal on one Id definitely say go for it. I’ll add that this was my first road bike as an adult… So I don’t have much to compare it to, but I do really enjoy riding it.

If its made in the USA, then that is the finest aluminum frame ever made. Do it

Bought caad95 last year, that is the the caad9 with 105 group. I have been happy with it but purchased a used Hi-Mod Slice as I can not get aero enough in the caad. My son is going to ride in the caad9 I still like the bike and don’t plan on getting rid of it. From what I have read that is one of the best frames every built.

Have a CAAD8 Campy record, season 6 with this bike, and I love it. Handles great, and comfort has never been an issue on any long ride I have done(4-8 hour range).
