Buying Stainless/Replacement Bolts

When buying replacement bolts, I see the convention of M5, M6, etc. Does this mean a 5mm, 6mm, etc allen hex fits? This assumes the thread per unit length is standard.

All that is left is to specify the head configuration (flat, rounded, etc) and length of bolt.

Thanks.

No, M5, M6, etc. refer to the bolt’s diameter. M5 = 5 millimeters.

As the poster before me said, M6 refers to a 6mm major diameter bolt, however, I have found that bike companies often use modified or non-standard bolts. It’s probably best to take your bolts to the local hardware store (not Home Depot) and match them up. I have found that Ace or True Value (in the US) has great SS hardware selection, HD does not.
