Buying bike in USA and bringing to UK

Hi everyone,

has anyone bought a bike in the USA and brought it back to the UK? I am considering doing that during a family vacation but am worried customs may stop me and make me pay tax on it. I can always say I went to compete and that bike had been bought in the UK, but was wondering if anyone had done this before.

Post your receipts back home from the US so there is no proof of purchase and ride it round in the mud, how are they going to know you bought it in the US ?

Serious point, the brakes will be the wrong way round…
