how do you log others’ details?
Yes I have them and use them still. I’m a supply chain person so often meeting new persons at companies/potential suppliers. Many times its multiples of people in various roles. Sales, Quality, Executives.
I usually put them into my contacts when I return to the office. I also build the same contacts from e-mails. So still use but not as prevalent as they used to be. Doing business in Asia was always interesting with the ettiquete in handing business cards out as well as accepting them. Wonder if that has change?
Just picked mine up from the printers yesterday. Eggshell with Romalian type. Raised lettering, pale nimbus white. Subtle off white coloring with a tasteful thickness to it. It even has a watermark.
I still have a bunch. Rarely hand them out anymore.
I occasionally have some handed to me, which I usually snap a picture of then promptly forget about.
If I meet someone I need to keep in contact with I just ask for their number and enter it in my contacts.
I’m also in supply chain and still use business cards. My last box of 250 is almost gone–it lasted about 3 years.
Yes, I still have them but rarely hand them out. I have half a box left, from a prior assignment. I think I got them 3-4 years ago. The city for whom I work has a bit of a budget crunch and new business cards were axed. Gotta save those tax dollars.
I have them but will inevitably forget to bring them to meetings where they would be useful. But still find them easier for sharing contact information quickly than using phones. Plus they are very helpful for resetting your disk brake calipers.
I have them and hand out a handful a year or so. I also definitely get handed business cards from various government and industry folks. For government, it’s fairly easy to find them in the global email system, but I can grab the card to remind me of who it is I might need to contact. For industry or academia, I usually follow up with an email, or keep them stashed away for the chance need to reach out. For a time, I tried entering business card info into my Outlook contacts, but it became more trouble than it was worth.
sorry dumb question but . . .
do you have a separate collection of business contacts vs family etc?
No, I’ve given up to the hive mind on this and other things. I just click add to contacts and my work-ringfenced apps can seemingly draw from my main iphone pool of names (and anyone that they know through work). I don’t know if this is real but I’m starting to get the sense that even contact lists may become redundant soon - all my devices remember who I’ve been corresponding with, most of them permit their details to be shared and so I can increasingly just write someone’s name and they pop-up in whatever app I’m using even if I don’t have them saved as a contact. Creepy, but you have to pick your battles.
Still have them. I occasionally pass them out at those soul-killing networking events I still have to attend sometimes. I assume they all end up in the bin.
When I receive someone else’s card, if I actually want to keep in touch with them, I either send a photo of the card to my admin to log into contacts, or more usually I connect on LinkedIn, which will give me enough of an anchor to contact them later if I need to. The physical cards get binned pretty quickly.
The biggest utility for my cards now is to drop them in a bowl at the entrance to an event if there’s some sort of raffle or prize drawing going on.
I pick up cards at galleries or other art events, just because I don’t always catch the name of the artist right away and that helps to follow them later
I never ordered a set from my current/latest company and position, so no.
When I need to exchange info, phone to phone messaging, email, QR code, or other apps were used. In fact, it would seem a a bit odd/archaic to exchange cards these days I think.
I had biz cards in previous roles at other companies.
At some point in my career wife/family collected each business card from my various roles, arranged them in an ascending stair like pattern and had that framed. Literally my career progression. That was cool.
I still have the majority of the box of cards I got when I started nearly 30 yrs and 2 promotions ago.
Working for the government, my personal phone is not allowed to connect to work networks. I also work everyday, and frequently meet people, in buildings or venues that contain classified material, so we’re not even allowed to bring phones or other wireless devices inside.
Business cards are pretty much still a thing for me because of US government security concerns.
I have some old ones for work that I no longer use anymore, title/department are all outdated.
That said, I have a “side hustle” craft/houseplant business where I do pop-up events and have a few items for sale in a small local shop. I was looking into some business cards for that, any suggestions on where to get them cheap?
