I’m going to be staying in Burlington on Friday before I head to Muskoka and wanted to do a nice ride–I don’t mind a few good climbs.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

go rural. Towards GUelph but not on the main highways as folks there have no respect for cyclists from what I have seen.
Originally I am from Hamitlon and went there on vacation a few times (yes hamilton on vacation) brought my bike and was routinely squeezed off the road near town. I was threatened by some dumb ass in porcshe and when I confronted at the next light he rolled up his window and called the police. Police had a good laugh but I didn’t.
Stick to the low traffic areas. If I remember correctly there are some low traffic roads that go up to rattlesnke point, so thats a little climbing.
What kind of time/distance are you looking to do?

25 to 30 miles would be nice.
I’ve ridden a little around there. I’ve done that silly hill out Appleby Line, but want something a little different.
I lived in Guelph for 5 years, but wasn’t riding back then so I don’t know the good routes, and really, neither do my old friends.
Here’s a quick 26 mile route on gmap you can check out: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1040842
I would suggest you try and plan it during non rush hour times, between 9 am to 3 pm would be good. The roads down by the lake can be busier, but either have a bike lane or are wider than normal so vehicles passing should not be a problem. The hills are nothing extreme, with only one longer climb up the escarpment on Snake Road. Once your on 1st Side Road, be careful crossing the major roads as the traffic is usually travelling well above the speed limit.
Have fun and good luck at Muskoka.

Pretty much any of the roads heading N past Dundas are a good bet. When I lived in Oakville we’d ride Guelph/Appleby/Walkers/Burnamthorpe/whatever - the roads around Milton tend to be fairly lightly travelled and have fewer stops. Some decent (for Ontario) hills there, too…

That’s part of the 2007 OCA Provincial Road Race course coming up in August. There has been some controversey about it that it is too demanding!
If it’s dry…fine.
I went up on a rainy fall afternoon. Wet leaves and a 20% grade can make for some interesting climbing.
weather Kentwork (migraines allow me to predict precipitation with insane accuracy) says there is zero chance of rain for at least the next three days (my range can go as far as five days if the front is big enough). You should be good to go every day this week. You read it here.
We were talking about a climb in the Provincial Road Race–how’s the weather going to be for that?
yeah…that’s a bit out of my range…see me the week of and I’ll let ya know…this week is still looking good though
