Build up to LA 2028 and World Triathlon ITU Thread

Knibb has been subbed in for EA at WTCS Alghero. No Pearson *yet.

Pearson isn’t even on the wait list so doesn’t that mean he has no interest in racing? He has entered into the wait list(start list not finalised yet) for T100 San Fran the following weekend.

I’m just making a note that our top itu guy who may or may not be coming back isn’t in fact coming back yet.

that would not happen before Monday if it was happening

he seems to prefer polish food over Italian lol. (more seriously I guess he is a placeholder )
and given that he is 26th in the world ranking he would have needed no sub in for alghero.

both waugh and knibb are still on yokahama start list and at this stage if they were to roll off, 2 things would happen, they cant race another world triathlon race for 30 days or the fed has to use a joker for them “to get out of jail”

I wonder if it also has to do with Yokohama not being part of the olympic qualification cycle?

Jakub Suchan, Kuba Gajda and Marten van Riel would’ve whipped Morgan’s Zone 2 butt. He ain’t coming

Thanks for this link. Interesting

WTCS Alghero
Looks like those on the wait list rolled on, with some withdrawals from the original athletes listed. Now shows 55 names.
GTB and Waugh both in there.
Looks like Britain, Germany and USA have more or less their ‘1st XI’ there and France has their top 3.
No Jorgensen.
I see Waugh, GTB, Spivey, Knibb and Schär will race a week after T100 Pamplona.

7 women on the start for GB. Includes Sophie Evans ( need Coldwell)

Alex yee still on waitlist. Not much chance of a start. Unless he is substituted for another Brit. Connor Bentley, perhaps. If he is injured.

I haven’t got a clue about this sort of stuff, if I say Yee isn’t ranked high enough to get a start for UK, am I guessing right?

But its upto Brit tri to put him in?

the sub in is closed for alghero, he is basically 17 th on the waiting list now.
in fairness the current individual olympic podium should always get on a start list regardless of quotas.
its not a good look that the current olympic champ is on a waiting list.

Absolutely! He’s our best hope of a medal (definitely not our only, before someone decides to dive on my comment) he needs to be racing triathlon ASAP after messing around doing all these marathons etc.

He’s racing Yokahama, so this is even more bewildering why he’s on a wait list for another race.

the rules are bewildering, ie world tri rules do not allow for invitations for athletes from countries that have reached their maximum quota .
At the same time brit tri could have subed him in, so I would say he was not that keen to race and I guess he will be in Quiberon and London.

Yes. I downloaded the Bri tri rules that you provided a link to. Their rules ( brit tri) allow them to substitute an athlete with an Olympic medal for a higher ranked athlete, even if that athlete wants to race. So I guess they are not and Yee is happy to wait for the next WTS, when probably his ranking will give him direct entry . With points gained from Yokohama.

Suggest worth bearing in mind that gaining a third men’s slot for GBR will likely depend on the athletes who are on the start list for Alghero. Jump start to get those points: if they were subbed out for Yee the points they didn’t earn at Alghero might be crucial. As said, provided he goes well in Yokohama (top 10 say), Yee’ll jump into the top 30 (currently #53 rankings and get starts as normal).

I believe for Alghero Knibb got subbed in for a placeholder spot, which makes sense.

yes, I would agree with that, the female race is not even full atm and with a “hostile” sub out the subed out athletes would have asked to be put on the waiting list and would be in now.
