So what’s the big deal about it?
There’s one I can pass by this summer.

Lots of gas pumps, lots of very clean bathrooms, cheap ice, freshly made BBQ sandwiches that are decent, cheap soda/drinks, good Buc-ee’s snacks. It is an experience.
What are some good snacks?
What makes it an “experience?”
Hard to explain why people consider it an experience, but it is.
For snacks, try this. I don’t get a lot of snacks when I travel.
Which is why I am going.
I try to understand the People so I can attempt to be one of the People.
Meh. For me it was like the Disneyland of gas stations. Long lines and most everything branded Buc ees
I went to the largest truck stop in the world on my way to Des Moines. I experienced a really big truck stop. Which meant it took twice as long to get gas and pee.
Once was enough.
Definitely the cleanest tiolets you will find in a gas station. Cheap coffee and soda.
Lots of people buying Buccee merch - I have no idea why. All the ones I have stopped at were full of people.
Agree. As far as the gas pumps, the bathrooms, and the availability of drinks/snacks, 5* all the way.
As far as the cultural phenomenon around them, weird AF.
No clue. It’s a big gas station convenience store. Or a small Walmart, which is pretty much the vibe. There’s one 20 miles down the interstate from me and I’ve been once. No reason to go back.

Started in The South. More fingers than teeth. Lots of disinfectant when you get back in the car. Sorta like a drive down the Dan Ryan and the Bishop Ford, onto the Bormann in NW Indiana…
Their original gimmick was very large, clean bathrooms.
BBQ sandwiches are decent. Large candy selection. Beaver Nuggets are popular but ive never had them.
The wife enjoys the cherry candies.
The jams are pretty good.
In spite of all the people, lines move pretty fast
Jerky Wall
Bottom line it is a gas station with nice clean toilets and a bizillion snacks. Not in my wheelhouse, but if big clean gas stations are your thing, charge right in.
Don’t ride your bike to one because they don’t have bike racks
BBQ sandwiches are decent.
Decent is being generous, IMO. I think it’s one of those phenomenons where we’re told it’s special and great, so we go in with that expectation and since it wasn’t awful, we perpetuate the myth.
I liken people who proclaim the Bucees greatness to those who do the same for Cracker Barrel, and will travel out of their way to go to a Cracker Barrel.
They’re unequivocally decent. Is there better BBQ at standalone BBQ restaurants? Absolutely and without a doubt. Bypassing a good restaurant to go out of your way to eat at Buc-ee’s is kind of foolish but as far as on the road, interstate type places they’re light years beyond their competition. The only place remotely close from a food standpoint is Wawa. But Wawa doesn’t have the billion other things Buc-ee’s has.
For me, it is the clean, plentiful bathrooms … the coffee (QT has good coffee too) … 100+ gas pumps (but I have still had to que up for one occassionally). Then there is the BBQ. I hail from Texas and it is Texas brisket which I struggle to find in South Carolina.
They are the superior choice if you’re roadtripping/driving and need to stop for gas/coffee/snacks/bathroom, etc… But that’s it. It’s not worth a special trip to go to one.
Its just far better than other typical truck stop or convenience store. People watching opportunity is premium and certainly a unique slice of the public.
You will be disappointed, as everyone is who hasn’t been but all their friends keep chattering about it…the myth and buildup about a Buccees outpaces the actuality for sure.
