Bruise on top of foot - any ideas?

A few hours after my run on Tuesday I noticed a quarter-sized bruise on the top of my right foot located between the big toe and 2nd toe. I took yesterday off but ran again today and I definitely felt some pressure in that area during the run. I seem to have totally normal range of motion in all my toes and it doesn’t really hurt (unless I press on it) and there is little/no swelling but it is odd. At this point I’m not entirely sure its from running but I don’t remember hitting it on anything. What say you?

Some other info:
I have been stepping up my running volume/frequency lately. Still not up to ST standards but I’m running 4-5 days/week, 3-6 miles per run.I switched shoes back in Sept (from a Brooks Addiction to a Brooks Adrenaline) Thanks in advance for your advice/comments.

Care to post a photo? Most common area for a stress fx in a runner is the 2nd metatarsal at the neck (about the area you are describing)

Your laces might be too tight. How tightly are you doing them up?

I suppose they are on the tighter side, esp since I’ve been running with thicker socks due to cold.

Yup - looks more traumatic there (i.e. laces too tight) since there are quite a few veins off the dorsal arcuate in the area.

Thanks, I’ve got a 10k this Sat that I’d really like to run so will try to go a little looser on the laces.

Are you using Yankz (or any other elastic lacing system). I had the same problem earlier this year. For the past 2 years I have been using Yankz without any issues. For some reason this year, I had “top of foot pain”. I put in the original laces and the pain went away. (I even had my Yankz super, super loose).

Thanks. No, just the regular laces. In fact I was thinking of switching back to elastic laces since I’ve usually found them to be looser.

You were the punter for the Tennessee Vols this year?
