Hey, Anyone have bruises form on your skin from a muscle strain? I went XC skiing for the first time and probably overdid it by a good amount. My adductors are killing me now and I have bruising on the skin right along the top inside thigh. Its symmetrical and seems like an odd location for me to have whacked something and not remember.
The tearing of the muscle can cause tears in small vessels, so yes, it can happen. It happens to me with anything other than a minor strain(I have a bleeding disorder to account for it though).
Sounds weird to me. If you tore a muscle - then yes - but tearing muscles hurts and you should know it…microtears from overuse - doesn’t seem like that would bleed much???. Symmetric groin bruising from overuse??? Did you fall? I’d get a professional opinion (i.e. I’d see a doc).

Yeah, skimmed right over the symmetrical part. I’d check with a doc too.
I work in an athletics sports medicine setting.
Actually bruising as a result of a muscle strain is quite common. We see it a lot with adductor, quad, hamstring, calf strains in particular.
I always hurt like heck between the legs after my first ski of the season, but it doesn’t bruise.
I have seen this only once. One of the jumpers on my track team also played basketball. He had one on his thigh from basketball that was still visible at the start of track season. He denied getting hit and said it was a pull. I’m a bit surprised you could do it in an endurance sport. I associated it with sudden explosive type activiity. But then, I don’t know how you ski.
I can confirm Homer’s point - happens all the time - don’t go to your doctor unless you cannot fire the muscle at all. Then it is a big problem.
Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation
That’s what you need for now - don’t stretch at all for several days - hold off on strength training with those muscles for a couple of weeks.
you’ll be fine.

In my opinion - the original poster may be using the word “strain” incorrectly. Strain implies acute tear which parchamp should know he did. If he strained/pulled/tore - then yeah - bruising is common. Symmetric groin bruising with a strain is still a bit odd - he’d have to avulse a tendon off his pelvis or pull something really high up to get that - even then you’d expect it to be more unilateral.
Sounds to me like parchamp just really overdid it - no acute injury - just single day overuse. I wouldn’t expect to see bruising with that - would you?
I live in a land of cross-country skiiers and have never seen it. I’d be cautious with recs on this one.
