Brooks Transcend

Anyone try these? Are they similar to the cushion on the Launch? Thinking about trying these out with a few others as a long run/easy run shoe. Seems pricey at $160. Thoughts?

I tried them out. Very cushioned, similar heel/toe ramp, I think they are 10 mm while the Launch is 12. The Transcend is significantly heavier too. I wear the Launch and think Transcend is a bit too much shoe for me. Launch are neutral lightweight trainers, the Transcend is a support heavy trainer.

The Launch is a 9mm Heel-to-toe drop and the Transcend is 8mm. That is where the similarities end!

The Transcend is a stability shoe, much like the Beast. If you are running in Launch now and are looking for more cushion then you are best to go with the Hokas as they are designed for a neutral runner.

I heard about the Transcend last year and was really hoping Brooks would make it a Hoka-like shoe but they didn’t. Just made another cushioned stability shoe with “guide rails” - whatever the hell that means?

At my LRS the Brooks rep was even telling the sales guy not to compare the Transcend to Hokas!

JIrv hit it spot on. To me, they felt heavy, clunky, and restrictive. Nothing at all like Hokas.

Thanks for the correction on the heel/toe drop. I haven’t looked them up in a while. Apparently my memory isn’t what it used to be.

The Glycerine will be getting a remake similar to the Transcend (~20% increase in cushioning) here in a couple months. The rep was at my store today and they look interesting…a good make-over on the Ghost too.

I would say that the Transcend are as similar to the Beast as they are the Launch, meaning not at all. While they are a “stability” shoe, they don’t have the massive medial posting that the Beast do (or even as much as the Adrenaline) but provide their stability via a guide-rail system. I honestly can’t comment too much about how that works, as I haven’t been working as much since they came out and rarely pull then unless someone asks. I need to hop on 3point5 and school up a bit, or it’d be nice if a Guru came in while I’m on.

I run mostly in Launch (short races in Type A5’s), but have found myself doing recovery and some long runs in a pair of Hoka Stinson Evo’s. The Transcend are nothing like the Hokas, though I hope they get closer with the next iteration or the next Glycerins.

I bought a pair to use for my long runs. The first 2 runs (9mi and 12mi) went okay. I didn’t perceive a ton of extra cushioning compared to my regular trainers (saucony guide 6, brooks pure cadence). I guess maybe these were a little softer on the downhills.

On my 3rd long run with the Trancend, I started getting a pain in the back/bottom of my left heel. It wasn’t really bad, so I finished off the run (14mi). I didn’t realize it during the run, but I had just irritated that heel very badly. I think my doctors second question was “have you just started using a new pair of running shoes?”

I’m just about recovered from the heel thing. I think I’ll give the Transcends another shot this summer. But for now, I’m too nervous that they might have been part of the cause of the heel pain.

In summary, it might be a good idea to wait until these have a price drop before buying.

I’ve been running with the Adrenalines for years and I looked into the Transcend when they came out. Spoke to someone at Brooks and Roadrunnersports and was told that the Transcend has more stability then the Adrenalines.

Not looking for that as the Adrenalines are the most support I want in a trainer.

Transcend=beast with support
