Brooks Trance 6 vs Asics Gel Kayano

I need a new pair of running shoes. Have used Gel Kayano’s since they started making them - before that I liked Brooks shoes. The guy at the running store suggested trying the new Brooks Trance 6. Said it was similar to the Kayano, with a little more cushioning, a little more support, and may last longer. The last generation of Kayano’s didn’t last as long and seemed to have a little less support, so I’m thinking of trying something different. Has anyone tried these shoes? Thanks

Got a pair of the 6’s last week and love them. Give them a try, Brooks has a policy where you can return the shoe if it does not work.

One more thing - I’ve had several bouts with plantar fasciitis, so I need to consider that with a new shoe
.

I’m currently a big fan of Brooks. Am in a pair of the Glycerin’s and have been very happy with the durability. Can’t speak specifically to the Trance but the Brooks catalog describes it as an advanced stability shoe recommended for moderate pronators, a blend of cushioning and support. It is a pretty heavy shoe, 12.7oz, which is even heavier than Brooks’ trail shoe, the Cascadia, but not as heavy as their Addicition or Beast models. It’s also the most expensive Brooks shoe, not to be too cynical towards the guy at the running store (commission?). You may also want to check out the Adrenaline GTS which may have a touch less cushioning but is $45 less than the Trance. From appearances the Adrenaline looks closer to the Kayano than the Trance does.

Full disclosure, my team gets a Brooks deal. Having said that, I’ve placed 14 from our team in Brooks in the past 6 months and everyone has been pleased with a lot of people placing follow up orders.

If you mean the last generation of Kayano’s as being the 11’s then I would dissagree. I got significantly more miles out of the 11’s than the 10’s.

If you are talking about the 12’s, the jury is still out for mine, but they are looking good. I wish they wouldn’t have made the shoe wider this time, it fits more like the 2110 now.

I’m coming back from an injury - haven’t been running much - so the shoes I’m replacing that didn’t last long were the Kayano X’s that I bought last July or August. I’ve never had 2110’s - are the XII’s narrower in the toe, heel?

The XII’s seem wider in the toebox than the X’s and XI’s. That didn’t work for me so I went with the ladies model.

Don’t tell anyone…oops
