I’ve been doing all my long runs in Asics Kayanos for the last 9 months or so and whilst I’ve been getting on fine with them, I’d like to try something new in the off-season. I’m looking at getting some Brooks Adrenaline GTS 15s to rotate them with and was just wondering how they compare.
I’m a moderate overpronator and definitely need the support from the Kayanos, are the Adrenalines similar in this regard? I tried them out on a treadmill in the shop and the heel-to-toe transition felt very smooth and quick, which I liked but I find it hard to gauge how they’ll feel after 10+ miles. Any help appreciated!
I have used both in the past. The Adrenalines to me felt great, but firmer than the Kayanos. It wasn’t an uncomfortable firmness…but it was noticeable. I much preferred the Adrenaline to the Kayano, but mainly because for some odd reason, when I run, I tend to “slap” the kayanos onto the road. It’s only happened to me with Kayano and GTXXXX.
I have now moved onto Saucony, and it’s the first shoe that I feel like I really will not move away from.
Not sure if this is helpful, but I definitely think you should be fine in rotation with them.
I rotate both weekly currently, with other makes/models as well. I’m also currently in the GTS 16’s, but did @ 350mi in the 15’s.
You may feel a firmer ride in the Adrenaline 16 (dual density midsole, roll bar), and should feel that both the 15 and 16 are firmer than the Kayano. The Gel areas of the Kayano are what give it more cush and a softer ride.
My experience is the Adrenaline’s hold up well through long distance work (16+ miles), and have durability that is comparable to the Kayano’s. Personally, have always felt the Kayano’s, GT 2xxx and GT 1xxx are fast out of the gate, but “feel” that I need to consciously work to maintain pace. Adrenaline’s, NB 870’s, and Adidas Response tend to feel a little more responsive…however feel is too subjective to go from what I say. As a reference, Nike Lunarglides feel similar in response to the Kayano.
So to specifically answer your question, yes, the Adrenalines are similar, and will hold up well to a Kayano standard. The NB 1260v4 and v5 are also a close fit as well. Took a demo run in the 1260v5, and it is very nice.
I ran on the GTS 13/14 and loved them. They were quite durable and felt great on the long runs. They almost would feel better after a few miles than right out of the gate. I purchased the 15’s based on my old size in the 13/14’s and went on my normal weekday long run. Halfway through I had a bloody sock and sore feet. Tried a half size up and they felt loose in the back yet tight in the front. The 15’s seems to run small in the toe-box area for me.
I ended up trading them for some Mizuno Wave Inspire 11’s. So far so good.
TLDR Version: Loved the GTS’s but the 15’s didn’t fit right.
