Broken SRAM Force 2010 Shift Lever

Went out for a recovery ride today after my big stage race last weekend. Bike performed great all weekend, but 25 minutes into my ‘just riding around’ today the paddle on my rear 2010 SRAM Force shifter snapped off at the pivot as shown:

No sprinting, no aggressive shifting at time of breakage. I did lay the bike down a couple of weeks ago and did a fair bit of damage to the front (left) lever, but the right lever got only a few scuffs. I’ve read similar accounts of failures all over the interwebs from manufacturing defects. However, I’m guessing I don’t have grounds for a warranty claim because I purchased these, unused, from another person rather than an LBS. Question is, can the lever be repaired/rebuilt, or do I need to buy a new set?

Talk to your LBS. They may be able to get this replaced under warranty. I’ve had that problem twice with Force. Both time under warranty. SRAM has provided excellent service on this for me.

Take it to your local SRAM dealer and see what SRAM says. As I understand they have excellent customer service and may be inclined to replace the shifter.

happens all the time, especially the rear shifter. Another racer i know just broke his third sram shifter. When you get warranty, pay extra & get sram red as their innards are a lot stronger.

I know this is an old thread, but the same thing just happened to me, same shifter, same part. I bought it on 2011, new. Supposedly they beefed up the parts but the same shifter looks exactly the same. what happened, did sram replace it for you?

Yes, I went through the LBS and they took care of everything with SRAM. I dropped off the bike and picked it up a week or two later with a new shifter installed.

New lever looked just like the old one. These things are so old at this point you might have trouble making a claim, but doesn’t hurt to try.
