British Triathlon Membership

Hello!

I need to join Triathlon England, as I need a licence for the Cervia 5150 later this year.

The difference between the core membership and ultimate membership seems to be the insurance for racing and training overseas. However, I live permanently overseas, so I don’t think the insurance will cover me anyway. Therefore I see no point in spending the extra cash for the top level membership.

I just wondered if anyone has raced at an Ironman event in Italy (or France) with the core membership and if the authorities accepted that ok? Is there anything different written on the core licence compared tp the ultimate licence?

Thanks for your help

No one used their British licence in Italy??

I’ve used a British Triathlon license across Europe - France, Germany, Spain, Greece, Switzerland, Luxembourg without any issues. Can’t say for certain with Italy, but surely it’d be the same? There’s never been an issue with level of membership either.

Are you 100% certain you have to have a federation membership too? I raced in France a couple of years ago (early season) & hadn’t yet gotten round to renewing my BT membership so it had lapsed. I just had to pay for a single day license when registering.

Also, FWIW, some European races do require anyone racing on a foreign federation license to have a letter from a doctor certifying your fitness to race. In the UK you can get this from your GP, although some of them will charge a nominal fee for the letter itself.

Thanks a lot. Good to know! Getting a day licence in Italy sounds like a nightmare (see below);

B - You do not have a 2022 license from a national triathlon federation
During the on-spot race registration, you will have to buy a one-day-license from the FITRI (Italian Triathlon Federation).
In order to receive your FITRI one-day-license you need to:

Bring a medical certificate for the practice of triathlon. In order to meet all legal requirements, the medical certificate must be issued by an authorized Italian center for sports medicine, NOT OLDER THAN 1 year on the race day and with the compulsory mention: “for triathlon”.

A few of us got the ‘need a doctor’s medical cert to say OK to race’ from a Swiss swim event just a few days ago.
Bit of a PITA really (given the ££, that I have to try to get an appointment (availability in GB for GP appointment is woeful and they’ll hardly welcome this when they aren’t seeing patients that are actually sick) and that a chat with a GP is really going to do feckall to change the risk for me - it’s not like I’m going to get full heart scans etc).

To race in France you either need a certificate from your doctor saying you are fit to race or have a recognised association membership. GB Tri is a recognised membership but I think you also need a race day licence. The membership just exempts you from needing the doctors certificate.

Sent you a DM about this race.
