Breathe Right Strips (1)

Anyone tried using a Breathe Right strip on their nose for a triathlon? Seems like it would come off during the swim and getting one on during the bike could be tricky.

Thoughts?

Put it on during transition. Otherwise, use it only on dus.

The strips do not come off easily. They have to be pulled off (usually pulling anything you may have in your pores. like blackheads, out at the same time), similar to a fabric bandage. They would not come off during the normal course of swimming.

As an example, think of all the NFL linemen that wear them while sweating their a$$es off, rubbing their faces, etc.

Having said all of that… Usually when I’m training or racing, I’m more concerned with keeping what’s in my head in my head (sniffing) or figuring a way to get it out (snot rocket). I don’t have much of a problem with my sinuses being clogged.

Just make sure you clean your nose well before you applie the strip with something like alcohol. The strip will then stay on during the swim and throughout the entire race. I have been using them for many years without a problem.

I’ve worn them during many IMs - no problem.

Do these things really work? They look pretty funky.

i think they work okay to reduce snoring.

but they won’t do anything for your athletic performance.

the first time i saw one, i thought:
that’s gotta leave one stupid-looking tan line.

I tried to use them on my running races, those things never seemed to stay put on my nose. I even wiped my nose with alcohol to clean the oil but still as soon as I sweat they come off. I think they are not designed for “sports” ?

I was thinking just that when I saw this post…

Like another poster commented, I think that the benefit of those things is primarily psychological unless you’re using it to help with a snoring problem.

I like them and I use them in all long distance running events and sometimes on long runs or rides. If they didn’t work for me then I wouldn’t pay the $1.50 per strip (they are not cheap). They maintain a clearer more open nasal passage for me and make it easier to breathe.

Thanks to those who gave feedback on using them in the water.

This has been my experience too. If you get plenty of air flow through your nose anyway, they probably won’t do much.

Forget the strips, if you want clean airways use this twice a day:

Mine i put on pre-race and have survived two IM’s.
