Breaking in New Tires for IMFLA

I am concerned about my new tires for IMFLA in November. I have been riding Vredestein Fortezza TRI Comp’s. I am ordering a new set and want to properly break them in for IMFLA.

Any recommendations on how many miles should I put on them before the race? Or should I keep the old ones for the race.

I’m no expert, but I agree with Felix. I have never heard of having to “break in” new tires, but it would be a good idea to install them a week or so before the race and ride them once or twice to make sure you have no problems on race day. Only advantage to “breaking in” I would see would be to remove any waxes or other byproducts from the molding process that may be left over from production.

What kind of solvent should I use to clean off old glue on carbon rims?

I have Zipp 404’s and used Tufo mounting tape. I want to get that off and go to regular glue.

I recommend lowering the air pressure in the front 1/2 pound, adding a round of wedge to the seat, pulling tape off the aero bar front for better airflow, and pulling a spring rubber out of the rear. . .OH, wait. . .wrong sport. . .

I’m with Felix, with one addition. . . use the same brand/model of tire as well. Changing to something like Michelin Pro Races or Conti GP 3000s may or may not be faster, but will definitely be DIFFERENT and that is rarely good on IM race day. Stick with what you know. If you want to try something else, NOW is the time to change, but you’ll still need to replace again before the race.
