Anyone use the bowflex SelectTech Dumbbells?

Do you like them? Any other recommendations?

Cheers

unless you’re very small/weak, get the 1090s. you’ll appreciate them. They are awesome (either set). generally can find the 552s on CL used for about 300. Not many used sets of 1090s seem to be around. New, I haven;t seen anyone beat bowflex direct price (with free shipping). Love mine

Get the Powerblocks. Far superior.

Bowflex are rubbish in comparison (and I have owned both).

I’ve used them, and the power blocks someone else mention. Personally, I have a completely different experience; I thought the powerblocks sucked, and the SelectTech are awesome.

They’re really nice if you’re doing multiple sets with different weights, which is what I find myself using them for. Top notch, super quick to change. They had them on my ship, and they stood up to at least 2 years of 80 people using them daily.

I have to vote for powerblocks as well. My wife and both have had them for over 4 years and they are excellent.

I have sold quite a few Power Block sets to people who had the bowflex. Haven’t had a single complaint on the PB’s yet. Plus, you get a lifetime warranty (much longer) on the 'Blocks, along with the finer adjustments all the way up to 50, plus the expansion sets can take them much heavier.

I worked at sports authority for awhile for a second job and I saw my fair share or damaged bow flex. The red pieces seem to crack frequently.

I have the 552’s and they work fine for me, just don’t beat the crap out of them or drop them and you will be fine. If you have a citibank credit card, you can actually redeem your “thank you” points for a set, that’s how I aquired mine.

I have the 552’s and would take the powerblocks instead if I was to buy again. The selectechs just don’t stand up to being droppped. You can also expend the powerblocks to a heavier weight when you get stronger.

love the grip on the bowflex weights.
no problems with them, love em too.

The Bowflex are junk, avoid them. The Powerblocks are better, but can be damaged as well. Some people complain about the ergonomics and how your hand in enclosed in them, but most people who have them seem to like 'em. The Ironmaster adjustable dbells are the best made. Nearly impervious to damage and quick to adjust, plus they’re not 16+ inches long regardless of how much weight is loaded.

He Reg you might want to reconsider that statement about figure skaters. I used to live with a pretty well known one (who is married) and he makes a ton of money doing it. Just saying.

I will have to write up a review on the power blocks and I will have to check out the Ironmaster.

Which PB model/stage is the most useful? I’m a 165 pound weakling.

I would suggest the Sport 9.0 or the Urethane 90 sets. Both will be in the 5-50 pound range adjustable in 2.5 pound increments (minus gaps at 12.5, 22.5, 32.5 and 42.5), both are can be expanded to 90 pounds should you need/want it.
The advantage of the Urethane set is they are coated in urethane and a bit quieter because there is no steel on steel contact with the plates/blocks. I have had the Sport 9.0 for several years with no complaints, I probably would have paid the $40 premium for the urethane set but that was before they were released.

i have the bowflext slect tech and i love them. never a problem. have had them about 3 years. the grip fits my hand very well. .goodluck!

Best tip so far, but nobody will listen. The dorksets win.
