Bottom Bracket Servicing

Had a strange sound coming from my drive train, thought that it was my chain initially. Then, sent my bike for servicing today and was told by the mechanic that the bottom bracket need to be serviced, think he said something about greasing to it and he also mentioned that my cable are not in very good condition even though it is still rideable. Meanwhile he helped me serviced the rest of the compoennts and some light clean up.

He did not recommend me to service my bottom bracket and change my cable as i told him that i will be taking a short break after my next HIM, hence selling the bike off.

Although there are still a lot of life in my 2007 bike, was just wondering if it is a good ideal to serviced the cable and bottom bracket. And is it costly to service the BB and change the cable? Cost is a huge factor for me and i am going to sell this bike away after my next event.

As i live quite far away from my nearest bike shop, so thought the best ideal is to ask you guys out here.

Replace the cables and the BB before you race, (and before sell it). Those are relatively cheap items to replace, and you can be confident when racing it, and have good confidence as a seller.
