I’ve been dealing with this for awhile now. What is the best bottle, cage combo for the behind the seat holders? I have an x-lab wing thing with two bottle cages on it–one i use for my flat/tool kit, the other for a spare bottle. I used to use the profile cages that don’t have “metal arm” (i’ll call it) to hold the bottle in well and that was horrible–bottles shooting everywhere. Then I moved to your more traditional bottle cage that is more secure, but I always fear tossing something on the way (especially in a race). So…does anyone have a bottle/cage combo they prefer or some method of securing them (besides duct tape) … please post a pic if its some wild bungee cord setup
X-lab saddle wing and velocity cages. Little heavier and not as pretty, but have not lost a bottle.
And the saddle wing is great for flats, I have my tire/tube patches in the hole in the middle along with the tire levers. Spare tube and spare tire get held on by velcro. CO2 and adapter attach to the saddle wing. The kitchen sink goes on the downtube.
I had the same problem when I bought my x-lab saddlewing setup - I was using my profile plastic cages and launching everywhere. Since then, I bought the cheap $3.00 bottle cages from the store - you know, the ones made of all wire that you can bend in if you want it tighter - although it is not as sexy as the latest carbon cages, they do keep your bottles in place.
I had the old Trimble carrier with two bottles. Launched routinely. Took some old toe straps and threaded them through the tops of cages and around the tops of the bottles… Problem solved. It’s not a big deal to trip the strap cinch to get the bottle out, and easy to tug on the strap to tighten it when putting the bottle back in.
