Bottle Cages Between Aero Bars

I’ve seen some threads on here but can’t find them now. Anybody have the links…or suggestions / pictures of a good setup. Any thoughts on the Profile Design HC Mount…looks effective and fairly cheap at about $20.

I’m also curious where people are mounting their computers with this setup. Thanks.

I used zip ties to secure a Bontrager Race Lite cage between the aerobars. The bottom of the cage rests on the base bar for added stability. Absolutely solid, no launched bottles, love it. Pic below (and the cage really isn’t crooked or slanted… that’s just the perspective from the cell phone camera).

I mount my computer on the stem.

Mine’s zip-tied to the stem/basebar (the spine of the cage rests on the top of the stem).

Nice set ups guys. I appreciate the feedback.

If you don’t want to use zip ties, this works.

GearWest out of the Twin Cities had a nice write up on how to do this yourself.

I have this http://www.profile-design.com/profile-design/products/hydration/all-hydration
.

When this craze was still in its infancy, I bought a device from Minoura for just $6. It works great as long as you don’t have your aerobars in their narrowest configuration.

Now XLab offers something for $45. Ridiculous, but I guess it isn’t the first case of triathletes paying way too much for something. Even $20 for the profile thing seems too high. Just look at all the zip-tie set-ups. They’re cheap as free.

just installed mine and so far so good.

don’t know about the HC mount, but you really only need a bottle cage and zip ties. It does depend on how close your bars are together (the closer they are the better they support the bottle)
here is a pic of mine, two zip ties is all that I used and it works perfectly

I used an old cage and zip ties, works perfectly!

exactly…use what you have, no need to spend more money when most people have everything they need to at least try it out.

My setup looks EXACTLY like this including the location of the Garmin. Heads up to you though - I was racing 2 weeks ago and the rear derailer cable worked itself under the Garmin Quick release and it went flying while I was going 40mph downhill. It was an expensive mistake!

dang!@ thanks for the warning, i will double check my cables tonight. I think they are fairly safe and tucked out of the way, they are zip tied , yes more zip ties :-), together behind the stem before they go into the frame. It keeps them in place. You can sort of see the zip ties in the original pic.

Did you stick with the 305 or upgrade to something else for the replacement?
Thanks again

The XLAB Torpedo Mount and Cage is the cleanest setup I’ve been able to find.

I’m not sure I understand what they are doing with the cut up tube…?

Protect the bars from the cage. Keeps it a bit softer for less shock onto the cage as well.

ahh, that’s all I could figure… still, seems a bit excessive.
