I have my bta and was gonna replace my plastic cages in my dual rig with the x lab carbon cages because they keep breaking. I’m not paying for replacement but it’s a hassle to keep replacing. Also idk just to have an extra bottle for the hot months. Im in central nc in Raleigh area so it can get hot and humid!
Hmmm…I have the xlab dual rear and xlab carbon cages and have never came close to breaking one.
If you are training, add it…who cares about a little drag? I think it looks better without, and you dont need that much fluid, so I wouldnt add it, BUT if you need it, go for it.
For racing, I wouldnt add it. It wont help and you have plenty of fluid options…and you wont be likely to break it on a race.

To each their own, but I’m running two bottles in Houton, TX. When I train, I carry a third in my jersey pocket. That means I can keep my preferred race set up and not have to change it for training rides.
I can’t speak for the OP, but I carry 3 bottles when training and doing long course races.
When training its less time to stop at a convenience store to fill back up. When doing a long course race that 3rd bottle is a good back up should I miss a hand up at an aid station. For a bigger guy like myself, missing a bottle could impact the rest of my race pretty badly.
I suppose one thing I wouldn’t want to do is carry a bottle in a jersey pocket so it’s not having a feeling pressed against my back or packing up my rear of jersey for when I’m on climbs or doing out of saddle work.
