Boston triathletes.... (1)

Hey,
Now that the weather is getting good, are there any aerobar friendly rides around Boston. Any easy route out of the city? Thanks

Your best bet is to get out of the city a little and find some quieter roads with less pot holes.

If you haven’t already checked it out, the Charles River Wheelmen have a pretty big cue sheet repository. Some of the directions are a little sketchy and haven’t been updated, but for the most part they are pretty good and have paint markings at major intersections.

I did the “River Runs Through It” 48 mile ride from Concord High last weekend. Nice roads. Still pretty beat up from the winter, and some of the markings are still covered in sand, but better than battling traffic downtown or along Mass Ave. When in doubt, follow the markings on the road, not the cue sheet.

Where exactly are you located? That makes a big difference. I would say west is the best direction to head, although there aren’t any “easy” ways out from anywhere near downtown. For really good stuff get out to Acton, Harvard, Stow…that area has some good stuff. I like to ride from Stow to Mount Wachusett in Princeton and back. I’ve done some sweet rides near the north shore as well. I have to drive or take the purple line up there though.

Not sure where you are located, but the Minuteman Bikeway starts at the Alewife T stop on the Red Line and heads out to Bedford; plenty of great riding routes that way out through Concord, Carlisle etc. One thing about the bikepath is you’d want to get out there early as it does get crowded quick with walkers, baby strollers, roller bladers etc. I’ll second the response above about heading out through Stow and Harvard, as well as heading out to Mt Wachusett.
