Boston Marathon Recconaissance

I have a business meeting tomorrow outside of Boston. The meeting is about 20 minutes drive from Hopkinton, MA. Rather than rushing back to NYC, and possibly missing a workout due to flight delays, I figured I might as well bring my running gear and get in a reconnaissance run for next year’s Boston Marathon. I ran 14 miles on Saturday, so I’m not going to go crazy but I’d like to run 8 or so. Since I’ll be based out of my car, I’ll need to do an out-and-back run. I was thinking about running from the top of Heartbreak Hill to the Newton Fire Station and then back. I’d probably be running at around 5pm. I’m curious about car traffic, I think there is a sidewalk for much of this route, but will I be crossing lots of streets? It’s an easy run, so I don’t need to hammer, but I do hate stop-and-go running. Is there anything else I should be aware of? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

a great route is to take the T (subway) out to Woodland T-Stop and run back in. It’s ~9 miles to the finish.

If you turn right out of the Woodland parking lot, you are about half a mile from the base of Heartbreak Hill. Run until you see the Firestation on your right. Take right on Commonwealth and there’s a side street that runs parallel to the main road for the entire length of Heartbreak… You can just follow the course all the way to the finish.

Once you finish, I recommend grabbing a recovery Guinness at The Crossroads pub at the corner of Mass Ave and Beacon St.
