Boston in 4 days and I'm sick

Why does this happen more often than not before a marathon/big event? Spring allergies that transform into a cold? Psychological lull that allows in bad wogs? One year I ran it with a head cold, but I’m not sure I want to do that again.

Anyone have cheese to go with my whine?

It is just your head playing games with you. Race morning you will be fine. Hydrate, carb load and give yourself positive messages.
Good luck and have a great time.

Nothing you can do but stay positive. Same thing happened to me 2 days before IMAZ. I figured show up anyway, go easy enough to be sure to finish, and enjoy the day. My time was far from my original goal but I still have a lot of satisfaction and enjoyed the heck out of the day. You just have to let go of the idea of a super race and go for the fun factor. Comparing my heartrate/power data to recent rides it is clear I could have never come close to my healthy potential.

Sparky, same thing happened to me a few years ago. Spent all that time preparing and training, only to go out on my last early morning training run and stepped on a rock in the road and sprained my ankle! This happened 7 days before. Iced it down and stayed off of it the rest of the time and decided to go and enjoy the experience rather than run it hard. Finished okay, not what I was planning for prior to the sprain, but still enjoyed the whole thing.

Go, enjoy and take it in. Mind over matter: If you don’t mind, it don’t matter!
