In order to compet on Ironman (bike leg around 4:55) what would be your choice between Rolf prima TT and Bontrager Aeolus 6.5, (rider’s weight : 155lbs). And why ?
Thanks in advance.

Bike leg of 4:55? Rear disc and deep front! That’s a pretty fast bike split for most courses, even FL or AZ. But out of those choices? The Aeolus

Indeed, that’s for when disc are not safe (like AZ sometimes) or allowed (HI). So Aeolus for you ? Why ? Because heavier ?
Aelous has a deeper section rim by 8mm, better hubs (DT Swiss - some say best in the world at the moment), and better lateral stiffness.
Also, if a zipp rim could handle 10 spokes on the front and 12 spokes on the rear without having serious durability issues, zipp would have done it. At your weight i would be hesitant to try running such a low spoke count.
You may want to think about the fact that Bontrager has a 5 year warranty. They will replace a broken part for almost any reason.
B-trag all the way. Ive got 6.5 tubulars, and they are bomb proof. The difference between the B-trags and zipps is that all the material in the B-trags is in the rim, while the aero fairing is mostly comsetic. I accidentally hit a MASSIVE pothole at 30mph on the bontragers, my bars rotated down, I almost dumped the bike, but the wheel took it like a pro.
Bought Bontrager 650 clincher racing/training wheel set and rear wheel went out of true. Trying to find the correct tool to true the spokes.
Have to get to the spokes by taking off the tire and tube. Requires a somewhat specialized spoke wrench. Not sure where to get the wrench or who to conact at Bontrager for help.
Suggestions?
thanks
I see the bontrager website doesn’t have much contact info… How about the dealer through which you purchased the wheel? I would just go to my LBS if it was me.
I would go with the Bontrager wheels. The rim is either made by Hed or designed by Hed. It even has a small Hed Sticker on it. I haven’t seen one in a while but IIRC, the rim has the tordial rim shape which is suppose to be far faster than the rest. Deeper rim with a better shape than the Rolf wheels. Seems like a no-brainer to me.
BTW- rode Rolf vector pros in my fat days (200+ pounds). I hit every pot hole in teh world and never knocked them even a little out of true. Probably put 7000 miles on that set in the first year. Currently have Bontrager Select wheels as training wheels with the same results. I wouldn’t worry about durability issues with paired spokes at all.
