Does anyone know much about this tire? My LBS is sold out of GP4000s, and I’m needing a tire to mount to 808 firecrest clinchers for an ironman.
How does it roll? How is the flat resistance?

I have AW2’s on my commuter bike and like them a lot … fast rolling, flat resistant, good traction and long wear.
With that said, the AW is an all around tire and could be a good training tire, but I wouldn’t qualify it as a racing tire … that’s what the “R” Series is for. I do like them much more than Continental tires though. For me they ride better, wear better and are more flat resistant.
Thank you.
The shop also has R3s in stock. Do those have similar flat protection to GP4000s? Is there much difference between the R3 and R4? Do the aero wings on these tires make enough of a difference to put them over the top of a better rolling tire?
Thank you.

The new R3’s have a flat prevention strip down the middle of the tread … the older ones did not. I’ve got several sets of Bontrager tires and have found them to be better at resisting flats than Continental tires … though, a lot of that will depend on where you ride and how you ride.
The aero wings can help on the right rim where they fit somewhat snug against it. Otherwise, it’s not much of a gain over regular tires, though I think there is some benefit. There is still a gap between the rim and the wings, but they fill in some of the area compared to regular tires from other brands.
As for rolling resistance, I’ve found them to be very good rolling tires … easily comparable to Continentals.
