I haven’t seen this posted anywhere.
Reports say Bob died while biking alone.
He was one of our legends, super star. Racing for over 40 years he was well known here in New England.
Always ripped, always smiling, always up at the front.
Will miss him
Thank you for posting.
He is certainly one of the OG’s here in RI. I would see him at local races and think, “Damn, I hope I’m in that kinda shape at his age.” We officially met few years ago at a HS swim meet. He was officiating and I was timing while wearing an Ironman t-shirt. He noticed the shirt and he sparked up conversation. I’d run into him from time to time and he would always be interested in how my daughters were swimming and what races I was doing.
He exuded energy and passion for the sport – a true ambassador for sure. He will be missed.
I competed against Bob in the early 1990’s and occasionally trained in same pool in RI. When I returned to the sport a few years ago after a 30 year break, I saw he was still racing and that inspired me as a 65+ triathlete. RIP Bob, you will be missed.
