I’ve been lurking on this forum for a while now picking up some training tips for my first Ironman in Austria in 2013.
Managed to make a big hole in the credit card yesterday buying my first TT bike, a Boardman AiR TT 9.4. Went with the 50mm front wheel option, Speedplay Zero pedals and I have replaced the Arione Tri 2 with an ISM Adamo prologue. Thought it would be a good idea to get used tot he new position on the bike before race day. So, with that in mind, I’m off to swap on the training wheels and settle down on the turbo trainer!
That front brake looks gimmicky to me. I wish the photos showed how that cable gets to it on the side you can’t see. Looks like a more conventional fork with an Omega would be at least as good if that cable is hanging out there and entering the fork from the side.
Very, very nice. Me like…the whole look is very clean, with no gimmicks. Are those wheels tubies or clinchers?
And, if I may be so forward as to ask…what did that rig set you back?
Spot
Cheers!
They’re tubies - a new design for 2013 seemingly - very similar to the cigar shape of Zipp Firecrests…
RRP of £3999, however, I bought this and an AiR TT 9.0 (with a couple of upgrades) for the better half since she’s doing IM Austria with me so I got a bit of a deal
Nice looking bike! Just curious, did Pete Jacob’s recent win have any influence on your bike choice?
I have a Boardman Pro Team Carbon road bike that I’ve had for about 3 years now (bought from Halfords!) and it is great - a cracking bike for the money. I went down to a Boardman Elite dealer in England to sit on the RETUL rig so I could work out which bikes would fit… They had the 9.0 / 9.2 / 9.4 / 9.8 in the showroom, and the rest, as they say, is history
The fact that the Brownlees did rather well in the Olympics and Pete Jacobs wasn’t too shabby in Kona hinted that the bikes are probably pretty decent (i.e. well above my ability) and the fact they were designed in the UK by one of our best ever cyclists helped sway my decision!
If you’re suffering from insomnia to can have a look at my blog - I’m a Physics Teacher at a Secondary school in the UK so I’m trying to get the pupils interested in ‘the journey’ and I’m sneaking in some science when they’re not looking!!!
