Boardman AiR/9.8/TTE

Recently built this Boardman AiR/9.8/TTE for a customer.

It’s a Medium. These bikes run a little long, esp in the smaller sizes, due to the integrated stem length being 100mm on all models - XS, S, M, L
Saddle height = 795mm, 26mm behind BB. Drop of 102mm. PadX = 470, PadY = 680

at 5’9 3/4", i’m rather short in the torso and long-legged. saddle height of 790mm, PadX = 455, PadY = 625, I’m an X-Small in this bike, based on the reach.

Thus, this TTE is best for those wanting a longer reach. The most rearward pad position is about 30mm in front of the Center of Headtube.

I love the relative simplicity of this bike for what it is.
Very easy to route the handlebars. Front brake requires some effort to get set up initially, but fairly easy to deal with after that.

As pictured, including Look Carbon Blade Pedals, and carbon cage, the bike weighs 19.93 pounds.
Size medium, Full Dura Ace Di2, Profile Design 78 Carbon Clinchers, Attack Saddle

Amazing, thank you very much fore sharing. Could you please say

  1. is there any storage option such as an aero bento box, thinking of a full Ironman race, that wouldn’t increase drag?

  2. Why are there external cables, different from the official http://www.boardmanbikes.com/road/airTTE98_Di2_DA.html ? Does it depend on specific client’s requests?

Can you order the bike with different width aerobars? I’m seeking bars that are 38cm.

  1. not that I’m aware of.
No top tube bosses, however, check out the new Profile Design FC BTA aero bottle with gel storage. It’s pretty slick.

  2. there are 2 di2 extension wire routing options. 1. Internally down through the arm rest spacers. And 2. externally through the front of the basebar (as shown). I usually do the latter to begin with, in case pad stack spacer adjustment(s) need to be made.

The former requires more work so I like to do that once the rider’s “final answer” has been made.

For 2015, same bar (width and stem length) comes on all 4 sizes.
Perhaps they will offer different lengths and widths in the future. (I think they need to offer shorter stem lengths at a minimum.)

Not that you would necessarily want to, but you could run another basebar on this bike if you wanted.
It’s just a standard 1 1/8" steerer tube to clamp to.

Thank you very much for your reply. What’s the distance between the center of the head tube and the center of the elbow pads with current configuration?

Following up on the previous aero bar question how adjustable are the extensions and pads? The pads look like they would be too far apart for me and because of the taper on the top tube I would want to run between the bar storage requiring a bit of wiggle room. When Boardman first launched bikes they were very good value for money (at least in the UK) but as brand recognition has increased unfortunately so have the prices.

You can switch the left and right aero extension bar mounts and that will reduce the pad width and aero extension bar width.

Hi,

Tracking this was a few years back. I’m trying to find a pad stack and reach for this frame in an XS but cannot seem to anywhere.

Can you advise?

Thanks,
Daz

Hi Daz
We no longer carry Boardman and I no longer have any frame geo information

Good luck!

Kirk

Going on a tangential but has Boardman left the bike business? I know they license their name to Halford’s in the UK to put on cheap bikes but it looks like they are no longer producing and sell there own bikes. The website show very good prices for 2019 models but offers no way to buy the models. The only retailers listed are Halfords which, as noted above, only license the name for there own brand bikes and have never sold the performance bikes Boardman actually makes. If anyone knows how I can order one the TTE 9.8’s at the price on their website I would definitely be interested.

I am assuming the prices were added to the website as click bait and bikes weren’t actually sold at those prices but its odd to me they have cut and run after investing so heavily in the ‘Boardman Performance Center.’

Hey Daz,

You can check this site out for the geo
