BMC tri bike

Have been looking at getting a new tri bike for the past couple months. Really like the BMC. Can get a TM01 at 25% off, really want di2, so would have to upgrade that.

OR-thoughts on buying the new TM02 with Di2? Less integration of brakes, easier to work on/travel,but integrated storage over the old TM01. How much aero disadvantage am I giving up? Is it work the money???

any thoughts would be appreciated!

thanks

I have the 2016 TM02 with 105 spec, so I cannot speak to Di2 other than I know my model has the ports built into the frame for it. The brakes are easy to work on, the rear one isn’t nearly that hard. I just flip it upside down in trainer and that is the best way to work on it for me. I love my bike, I think it is really easy to wrench on with minimal hassle. My only gripe is the stock saddle sucked and the aero bars are not the best. That will be my first upgrade to it this winter.

I have a 15’ or is it 14’ TM01… originally ultegra… went DuraAce Di2. Di2 is godsend on TT bike, more so then road to me. I’m a TT’er so I don’t need much storage, if I did Tri’s it would be sprint only since I have a bum knee, so again not worried about storage.

Brakes are not that hard to work on … rear is just hard to get to if you need to remove the pad. Stock bars are not great atleast on the model I got. Went to Missile Pro EVO when I did the Di2 conversion. Agree that the stock seat is not great, not crazy about my Fizik tritone either… might just put a Spec’d Power on it and call it done. Wide rims can be a pain on the rear is my main complaint. I run Zipp super9 disc and it has to be setup perfect not to rub.

I know nothing about the TM02 and it’s aero disadvantages. Used TM01s will be hitting the marketplaces very soon since the “new” one is coming. Might be some great deals out there. I like my TM01 well enough, I will not be “upgrading”.

Ditto on the above posts and ‘upgrades/replacements’. I too will not be looking to upgrade as owning a 2013 TM01 with DA Di2 (which is bloody great btw) I am more than happy with it. I also run a stages pm. I upgraded the saddle to tritone 5.5 (not convinced yet) and I also run zip disc super 9 and 808s/404s on it. Brakes i.e. changing wheel sets/pads can be a little fiddly at fast but once you know how its easy. As th other I up grades the cockpit to 3T Brezza II much better in my opinion to the stock profile design that came with it (feels lighter and to me a better fit). Great bikes - enjoy

I have a tm02 and love it. I am slowly upgrading it but I picked it over the tm01 because of cost and plus it didn’t seem like that big of a difference for the aero advantage. I bought mine new and didn’t feel the 3 watts different would justify the thousand bucks more. I thought if if i slapped on some wheels and get an aero helmet, you wouldn’t notice the differe ce. With that in mind, If you have the money then go for it! I will say the tm01 looks pretty sick.
Xlab has helped me with my storage stuff so no problem there.

I have a 14 (I think) TM02 105. I believe the only differences are the TM01 has the hidden front brake and the integrated stem/headset, and may be a little lighter. Other than that same frame. I also switched the tt bars. I love this bike.

Have a 2011 TM01 (M-S) with DI2. Bloody fast (anecdotal evidence) - use it for IM racing. Storage not to worried about, got my nutrition in an xlab bento box + the pockets of a HUUB DS Long Course.

Love the bike so much that I just bought another frame a couple of weeks ago 30ish % off (due to the new time machine arriving) and will build an eTap / Zipp component setup around it.

My take: the current TM01 in a well crafted, lean setup is the better value for money, even on IM racing. Everything shorter even more so.

Cheers

I’ve got TM02 - bought it when I wasn’t sure how serious I will be about the sport and figured it’s “good enough”. It is good enough, especially after the immediate cockpit and saddle upgrade. The Di2 is probably one of the most important upgrade to the TT bike IMHO.

Having said all this, now that I’ve realised my commitment to (or according to my wife - a total obsession with) the sport, I wish I’ve gotten the TM01 because of the better integration, cleaner setup etc. The TM02 is still too good for a replacement, but the whole headset situation bothers me a bit. Perhaps TriRig Sigma X, when and if it becomes available, may solve this. Doubt it will solve the gear fatigue though.

TM01 rider here. I rode both the TM02 and the TM01 and the difference may not be enormous in terms of aerodynamics, but the TM01 just feels more solid (especially on technical descents).

If you can stretch your money a bit, the TM01 is definitely worth it.

How slippery could you get with a TM02 and tri rig front end and brakes?
