Bloating, stomach hard, some pain after eating

I’m into heavy training but nothing out of the ordinary (a slight bump in hours training). But since last Saturday I have felt bloated, stomach hard, diarrhea, constipation, some pain after eating. I didn’t vomit during this time. But these symptoms haven’t gone away. It was worse the 1st day and 2nd day. Is it possible that the extra training is stressing my digestive system? Or do I have just a stomach virus that is lingering?

Perhaps it’s stress. I’ve had that as well, and sometimes get it after a big race.
I took a day off, it got better. Drink allot of water and try not to take any meds for it.
If its a bug on the other hand, which is possible, not sure what to do then.

The one fix I found that never failed for stomach ache is HEAT! Get a hot pad or hot water bottle(as warm as you can stand)and that WILL work. Long range, stop eating meat,IMO.

Are you saying just red meat or all meat (chicken, etc)?

See MD, if blood in stool. Otherwise, it will probably pass (pardon the pun).

sounds like the aids

Not to sound like a d-bag…

But wouldn’t you be better of seeing a medical professional rather than taking medical advice from a Internet forum?

There is a lot of trash info in forums but there’s good information too. I saved a gall bladder operation with a simple “old school” remedy I learned online.

The doctor did all the tests and said it had to go. I was really begging to get the operation too but 1 day of “treatment” and I was cured with no operation and spent only $6.

Keep in mind that doctors are only human and they carry only one opinion, and not always the correct one.

The thing I see in many race reports is the proverbial “GI” issues. When I read what they ate before the race, I’m just thinking, “duh”.

I’ll bet that you’re consuming a lot more fitness foods, like gels, since you’ve ramped your training?

I would take a hard look there and avoid any of that stuff for a bit to let your body clean up. Also, eliminate all dairy and soy. Protein powders have a lot of whey / soy and both can cause digestive distress. Switch to a rice protein with no soy / whey.

Try this, get a bag of dried prunes (they are delicious) and some apples. Eat about 4 to 6 prunes before bed and eat an apple. It will get your system the fiber it needs to clean things up while you sleep and the next morning you’ll be able to drop a few pounds.

Just be careful with the prunes, they taste so good it’s hard to stop after 4 but too many is just too much of a good thing.

Kill the gluten too. I hate to sound like a zealot but I cut out 100% of my dairy and almost all wheat (I still cheat a bit as its hard to eat a burrito without a tortilla) and when you flush the system of these items, you’ll notice the discomfort they cause your system as soon as you add them back in.

Because we all live with bad food daily, it’s hard to know what it feels like to be clean.

Plus you’ll drop weight without trying even though you’ll likely eat a greater volume of food.

1 last tip, to make things like burritos taste good without cheese, simply add avacado in as a cheese replacement. All the fat, none of the bad.

Seeking the advice of a medical professional is no doubt a good idea as general advice, but in this case the advice he received would no doubt be based on conventional wisdom, which for many, including me, fails to resolve digestive issues such as this.

In my case, reporting of these symptoms to my doctor led to an endoscopy and a diagnosis of chronic gastritis, and a prescription for a PPI medication, to be continued indefinitely.

My own research led to the matching of my symptoms with the commonly described symptoms of gluten intolerance. Not a mention of that from my doctor when I quizzed him on the alternatives to a lifetime of medication to suppress the normal function of my stomach!

I removed gluten from my diet, and problem solved, along with a lifetime skin condition and a chronic inflammatory condition of my knee.

I note that the OP has reported a number of chronic injuries recently in other threads. Just saying.

I think everyone should be vegatarian(no chicken, fish, meat etc.). I think most stomach problems are what we eat and how much. As I am sure you have seen many other posters are also telling you to go gluten free and other diet changes. I always say experiment and see!

sorry for the almost a year old question. what was your 6 dollar fix?

I had the same symptoms a few days after an IM. Blamed the symptoms on the race and refused to go the doctor for two weeks. Turned out to be Crohn’s Disease. If it stick around at all, go see the doc.
